The ISLANDS project has just released its third newsletter, a new chapter in the story of our growing research network.
This issue takes readers inside the daily life of ISLANDS — where talented doctoral candidates, dedicated supervisors, and partner institutions work together to shape the future of Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) technologies for next-generation wireless systems.
In the “Meet the Doctoral Candidates” section, you will discover the backgrounds and ambitions of some of our researchers, from Greece to Italy and Sweden, who are developing innovative solutions for vehicular communication, radar-based sensing, and AI-driven signal processing.
The Research Activities pages highlight the progress achieved in several areas: from intelligent localization and distributed architectures to reconfigurable antennas and holographic MIMO systems — all designed to bring sensing and communication closer together in real-world applications.
This edition also celebrates ISLANDS’ growing visibility in the international research landscape. Our team has represented the project at top-tier conferences such as the European Microwave Week, the IEEE Radar Conference, and the EuCNC & 6G Summit. Moreover, Doctoral Candidate Alexandra Chatzicharistou shared her latest results at UCL’s EEE Festival of Research and at the BT Leaders Lab, bridging academic research with industry innovation.
Through these pages, the newsletter captures the energy, curiosity, and collaboration that drive ISLANDS forward — a network where research meets creativity, and where every discovery contributes to the sustainable and intelligent wireless systems of tomorrow.
