The ISLANDS Doctoral Network is set to launch its new Soft Skills Course, offering doctoral candidates a valuable opportunity to strengthen the transversal skills that are increasingly essential in today’s research and professional environments.
While technical expertise remains a cornerstone of doctoral training, the ability to communicate ideas clearly, collaborate effectively, and navigate complex career paths is becoming equally important. The new course responds to this need with a dynamic programme that combines theory with hands-on practice.
Leading the training are Prof. Roberto Verdone, Full Professor of Telecommunications at the University of Bologna, and Michela Catenacci, expert in communication and emotional intelligence. Bringing together complementary backgrounds, the two instructors offer participants both academic depth and practical insight. Prof. Verdone contributes decades of experience in international research, innovation, and project coordination, alongside a strong focus on professional development. Michela Catenacci adds her expertise in communication, public engagement, and emotional intelligence, helping participants refine their interpersonal and presentation skills.
Together, they create a learning environment that bridges scientific excellence with real-world application.
The course will explore key topics such as effective communication, presentation techniques, teamwork, emotional intelligence, and job interview preparation. Through interactive sessions, self-assessment exercises, and group activities, participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own skills and actively apply new strategies.
The programme will culminate in a short presentation by each participant, providing a practical opportunity to showcase their progress and receive direct feedback from the instructors.
With this initiative, ISLANDS continues to invest in the holistic development of its doctoral candidates, preparing them not only for academic success but also for a wide range of future career paths.
Stay tuned for updates as the course gets underway.
